Play is a dynamic process that serves as a cornerstone for children’s development. It allows children to express themselves uniquely, connect with their peers, and acquire essential social skills. In contrast to adults, children often find it challenging to articulate their thoughts, problems, and questions verbally. Instead, they turn to play as a means of expressing their concerns, fears and desires. Play is a child's natural way of communicating, it nurtures their imagination, guides them in exploring the world around them, and forms a fundamental part of their development and overall wellbeing.
Playing alone (as well as playing with friends) differs from playing under the guidance of a trained Play Therapist during a Play Therapy session. In this context, play becomes a tool for achieving specific therapeutic goals. The child is observed, cared for, granted permission, and supported in their play endeavours.
